My History
- For many years I was a family doctor in Canterbury and latterly GP Sub Dean to Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Hospitals. Long before I retired I decided to pursue a second career in art. I had been previously interested in communication and wrote a textbook about it for young doctors entitled “Partners in Care”.
- I was also keen to stress the importance of non-verbal communication, and wrote a series of articles entitled "You watching Me, watching You". After I started to paint townscapes - I realised how my previous interest in body language could be translated into art: “a portrait of gestures”.
About Me
- Peter Livesey Watercolour Artist. I usually restrict my palette to just four colours.
- The spur was populating the scenes with people in life-like poses. The aspect of this artistic development that I am particularly interested in is the way people express themselves through their body language.
My Paintings
From an artistic view I am interested by the way people stand about chatting or simply taking in the scene, or the way they stroll casually about or stride out with purpose.
My Aim
- My aim is a little like that of Narrative Painting but is less prescriptive.
- My intention is to leave much of the visual interpretation to the observer and his or her imagination.
